Volunteer Registration

The Indian River Lagoon Science Festival is seeking science-enthusiasts willing to donate their time and talents!

Important information:

  • All volunteer opportunities will take place on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Veterans Memorial Park/River Walk Center in Fort Pierce.

  • The minimum age for volunteers is 16. The Smithsonian Marine Station will provide minor consent forms for any volunteers under age 18.

  • The Festival is outdoors, so please be prepared for variable weather conditions.

  • All volunteers will receive a Festival t-shirt.

To Complete Registration:

    1. Fill out the registration form below.

    2. All volunteers must also register with the Smithsonian Volunteer System (Vsys) for liability purposes.

      • If you have never volunteered with Smithsonian or IRL Science Festival, please follow the alternate link below to register with the Smithsonian Vsys system.

    3. If you are under 18, you must also have a parent or guardian fill out and sign a minor consent form [LINK HERE], return it to info@irlsciencefest.org

Volunteers who fail to complete the necessary registration will not be able to participate in volunteer activities.

Exhibitor Check-In (6:30am-10:00am): FULL
Greet exhibitors and tell them their booth location.
Day of Festival Set Up (6:30am-10:00am) FULL
Assist Festival staff with distributing and setting up materials on the Festival grounds including banners, flags and barricades. Distribute booth signs and linens to exhibitor tents.
Information/Festival T-Shirt/First Aid Tent (9:00am-3:30pm): FULL
Sit at information tent and answer visitor questions about the Festival. Provide basic first aid supplies if needed. Take in donation money for Festival t-shirts. Distribute raffle tickets to children and families.
Booth Assistant (9:00am-3:00pm): FULL
Assist exhibitors with public interaction and facilitating activities at booths. Exhibitors will provide any necessary training regarding the booth activities.
Photographer / Videographer (9:00 am-3:00 pm)
Take pictures and videos of the Procession of Species, stage events, exhibits, volunteers and general general crowd shots.
Stage Assistant (9:30am-3:00pm): FULL
Greet presenters performing on the Festival main stage and assist when needed. Volunteers may also assist with stage raffles. Alert Festival staff of any issues or needs that arise. Monitor the food area to make sure it's staying clean and problem free.
Visitor Evaluation (11:00 am -3:00 pm)
Ask visitors to fill out evaluation form and assist them with the form
Festival Break-Down (3:00pm-Completed) FULL
Assist Festival staff with breaking down and collecting materials on the Festival grounds including banners, flags and barricades. Festival break down volunteers may also assist exhibitors with transporting booth materials to their vehicles, collecting exhibitor feedback forms, or other duties as needed.
