COVID-19: HEALTH & SAFETY NOTICE

2020 INDIAN RIVER LAGOON SCIENCE FESTIVAL, CANCELLED

Last Updated: June 03, 2020

The IRL Science Festival Steering Committee has spent several weeks deliberating our response regarding coronavirus’s potential impact on the 2020 Indian River Lagoon Science Festival scheduled for October 24th in Downtown Fort Pierce. We have consulted with public event experts, our exhibitor partners, our community leaders and our Advisory Committee in an effort to reach consensus on how to move forward with the event. After much deliberation, given the hands-on nature of many of our demonstrations and the expected large numbers of attendees we have decided to cancel the 2020 Indian River Lagoon Science Festival. We take our responsibility to our community seriously, and ultimately the safety of the public, our exhibitors, our volunteers, and our partners is our primary concern.

We know you are as disappointed as we are by this news. This would have been our 7th year conducting the Festival and it has been our honor and joy each year. At this time, we do not plan to reschedule the Festival in 2020, however, IRLSF is always working on creative ways to engage the Treasure Coast in science throughout the year. We will be reaching out to our community to find needs that we can meet and ideas on how to serve the public with quality science content.

We urge our festival community to do what they can to hinder the potential spread of coronavirus. For the most current information about the disease and its prevention, please refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Florida Department of Health.
